Robert,

Thanks for all your contributions to the peak oil dialog. I suspect that ethanol and biodiesel will end up dead in the water by the time a new administration and a new Congress takes office, and that your expertise and generosity in debating Khosla and rapid development of accurate statistics and research into energy return on energy invested will be the reason.

Its a real shame, I'd much rather see the country and the world on sustainable, renewable resources as does almost any thoughtful person. But its hard to argue with physics, and ethanol and biodiesel won't be a big part of the mix. Your research and response to the issue will save a lot of money from going down a dead end.

Its always hard to balance your time, and I'm amazed at your productivity. With a demanding job, a wife and two small children I'm suprised that you have much time for peak oil. I do have one request, though. I really enjoyed your blog columns on the books that you are reading. Not only were your choices interesting, I loved the responses where people discussed what they were reading. This is a great crowd and the suggestions are great from everyone!

Bob:
I read about your health problem during the conference and wish you a speedy recovery.
I should add that at the beginning of the conference on Wednesday your name came up as a significant volunteer and was thanked for your contributions.
You were one of the few TOD'ers present that I missed meeting.
