Hi Heading Out, and thank you (again) so much.
re: Robert Hirsch's talk.
WRT " Based on the study, which showed that it will take 20-years to evolve the technology and methods that will get us into the next Energy Era, he reminded us that what we initially face is a liquid fuels problem."
When Hirsch speaks about "technology and methods" is he talking about CTL and other "FF to LF" technologies?
Do you know if he's done any work on trying to look at the costs and/or possible plans for solar/wind renewable build-out? And or, mitigation scenarios that do not rely on X to LF?
I mean, do the "technologies and methods" he refers to get us to a "next Energy Era" the he or others specifically define and envision?
Or, does he see this as a case of "buying" - (I should say "attempting to manufacture")- time?
And, lastly, is it our sense that people (such as Hirsch et al) are attempting to chart out some possible "war footing now" type of plans or proposals - ? Did he mention this at all?
He took part in the "Oil Shock" exercise and thus has had some part in trying to evolve strategies, but I believe that when he was talking about "future technologies and methods" he meant all of them. I think he is giving up on the fact that we have enough time, but is trying to encourage mitigation measures.
