though this board does not focus on shipping per se, the US gas market has only been stabilized with massive infusion of gasoline from overseas markets in recent weeks.  In financial times today is a deeply telling comment by Martin Stopford who is probably the most level-headed shipping analyst out there.  He is talking about the market for tankers shipping clean (refined) products in this quote:

Martin Stopford, oil tanker analysts at Clarkson - the shipping broker in London, said there were no more tankers to send to the US if there was a second emergency response post Hurricane Rita.

"The extra tankers needed post-Katrina has meant for the first time in 30 years that there are no tankers available to be called upon to fill the gap. Katrina has stretched the tanker market to its limit," Mr Stopford said.

That doesn't sound good. Look at the latest shut-down estimates. Whoops!
