It would seem like fraccing would make a big difference here, right? A frac job (especially with putting the sand in to keep the fractures open) effectively massively increases the catchment area of the well (or equivalently, increases the permeability of the rock a lot). Therefore, one would want wells drilled further apart, yes?

Directional drilling and frac jobs and all those things are in the hopper. But you tend to frac to open a tight rock, rather than to extend its reach.
