China is in a race...with itself.  Its population will begin aging rapidly in the next 20 years, and its leaders are frantically trying to move to a more consumption oriented economy rather than just producing cheap stuff for us. Certain areas have already experienced shortages of workers, wages have increased, more people moving into the "middle" class. I'm sure the leadership is well aware that they only have a few years before demographics catch up to them.
