What I cannot understand is why Albertains are willing to totally destroy their Provence for some temporary income. I read about stuff on the Peace River and think of what Brad and Vena Anger wrote about their time in Hudson Hope and it makes me sick.

The population of Alberta is concentrated in a few cities. Other parts of the province are largely empty.
The tar sands mining is out of sight. If you live in Calgary, you don't see it, smell it, or hear it -- all you see is the wealth it brings in.
