Yet as has been recently reported, Sweden which under Kyoto was allowed 4% increase in emissions on 1990 levels by 2012, in fact has achieved a 9% reduction by 2007; if they keep it up, they'll have an 11% reduction in 2012.

In this time, the Swedish economy has grown 44%, and they have a larger per capita GDP than Australia.

So it appears that you only have to trade off economy against environment if you are stupid and unimaginative and think that the only thing you can do to make money is dig stuff out of the ground and sell it overseas.
