Peak Oil Update - July 2009: Production Forecasts and EIA Oil Production Numbers

An update on the latest production numbers from the EIA along with graphs/charts of different oil production forecasts. 

World oil production (EIA Monthly) and various
forecasts (2001-2027)
World oil production (EIA Monthly) for crude oil + NGL. The median forecast is calculated from 15 models that are predicting a peak before 2020 (Bakhtiari, Smith, Staniford, Loglets, Shock model, GBM, ASPO-[70,58,45], Robelius Low/High, HSM,Duncan&Youngquist). 95% of the predictions  sees a production peak between 2008 and 2010 at 77.5 - 85.0 mbpd (The 95% forecast variability area in yellow is computed using a bootstrap technique). The magenta area is the 95% confidence interval for the population-based model. Click to Enlarge.

We are starting a new monthly series today. Once a month, a selection of peer reviewed articles from several Energy Journals will be posted on the Oil Drum by Rembrandt and EROI Guy. The journals from which we select articles include Ecological Economics, Biomass and Bioenergy, The Oil & Gas Journal, The Energy Journal, Resource and Energy Economics and Energy Policy, to name just a few. Links are provided to articles but some may require fees for access.

Peak Oil on Dutch Television

Last Friday our blogger Rembrandt was interviewed about Peak Oil on the Dutch Television show NOVA. About the rising price of crude in light of his upcoming book 'The Permanent Oil Crisis', the first Peak Oil book to be published in Dutch in the beginning of June.
